If you are like me, Christmas is EXHAUSTING! All those last minute shopping trips, and in my case, slick icy roads are not all that fun! I would prefer to sit at my sewing machine and create some fun things. Saturday, I made some hotpads for my mother-in-law. I think my FIL will probaby use them more. He is a baker and loves to be in the kitchen. Here is a picture of them.. The finished block is 8" which makes a very nice size for a hotpad.
Here are a few tips on how to make a hot pad.Do NOT use batting! The batting will tend to get very hot when next to a hot pan coming out of the oven. I use my old towels, hand towels or washcloths instead of batting. I usuall put two layers of towell material between the quilt block and the backing. Then I use a polyester filament thread as my top thread and a thread to match the backing fabric in the bobbin.
